How Juvederm Works to Rejuvenate Your Skin

Juvederm is a dermal filler that works by adding volume to facial tissue through its active ingredient, hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the human body that stimulates the production of collagen, a connective tissue that fills the skin. As we age, our bodies produce less and less hyaluronic acid and collagen, leading to wrinkles, fine lines, sagging skin, and volume loss. Juvederm is composed of a collagen-boosting compound called hyaluronic acid that helps to fill the volume lost in the injected areas.

This sugar has properties that allow it to rejuvenate and improve the skin by binding to water and moisturizing the surface. Most patients receive a minimum of 4 to 6 months of correction from their first treatment with Juvederm Ultra or Juvederm Ultra Plus, and in some people the results last up to a full year. Juvederm Voluma XC is especially suitable for people who want to look younger without surgery. A topical anesthetic will usually be applied before treatment begins to improve patient comfort, and the XC versions of Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus also have lidocaine anesthetic.

To care for yourself after your Juvederm injection, gently apply an ice pack or other cold pack if there is any bruising, swelling, or redness. A Juvederm syringe can usually produce the results you're looking for, but sometimes a higher dose is needed. Restylane results last 7-11 months, while Juvederm lasts 7-10 months (smoking may result in earlier absorption). Juvederm Ultra Plus has a slightly stiffer formulation, so it is commonly used in nasolabial folds and other areas where there are deeper facial folds or wrinkles. Juvederm can help restore a more youthful look and can also create thicker lips in people who were born with thin lips.

If you are considering using Juvederm or any other dermal filler, be sure to discuss your options with a trusted doctor.
